now

when i was in high school and undergrad i was a pretty well-developed partygirl
now
i'm quite a nerd.  and i like it this way.

when i was in my early twenties i was a hyper-focused,
singing ego-maniac
now
i'm thrilled to teach and inspire children and grown-upinner-children to
express their song.  and i so much like it this way.

during what they call the formative years {0-17}
i experienced a great longing to connect with and understand mySelf
culturally
as i was socialized in a culture different than my own.
now
after living all around this country [and for a short-time outside the US]
and immersing mySelf in
every cultural opportunity i could find,
i embrace my Self and all its influences from each of the cultures i've engaged.
and i like it this way.
to paraphrase dr. wayne dyer ::
i'm not better than anyone else,
but i am better than i used to be

still in my formative years {age 42}
i'm grateful for the inner shifts that are happening right
now
i dig it this way.

everything comes together
when we get there

Ah yes, these continue to be the "formative years," it seems. I Know I'm better than I used to be and getting better all the time. Waking up to our true selves is a wondrous thing, isn't it? Very nice post. Thank you, Michelle.

The older the violin, the sweeter the music!
"Waking up" is the key. You put it so beautifully...Thanks!

A thought came to me recently after much introspection and the message was simply,” be better than you are.” Regardless of where I stand at the moment, there is a demand to do better and be better. It seems an appropriate mantra. Because of it, I feel more conscious of the opportunities to do just those things. It is not a consequence of some lifetime accounting to balance the books but simply an opportunity to share and yield more light where darkness rests. Thank you for sharing your light Michelle.

Michelle, your 'self' is so beautiful you're an inspiration. Being better than I used to be anchors those who understand themselves, I think. Too many people want to be like they used to be, a mistake. You're a gentle nudge not to regress.

Grandpa tagged me to write about life in the quiet lane (today's post) and, guess what, I tagged you to carry the torch. Hope this is okay.

Oops, I want to email you but don't see your address (to send my address.) When we switched to Windows 7, I lost some stuff. I've been under the radar, navigating one of life's patches that's finally opened onto green grass. It's been one thing after another since we returned home in August, but good karma prevailed, yay!

How about wine? the older it is the better it gets. Hi Michelle, greetings from the rainforest, where I find solace and a perfect place for any kind of meditation. I'm here from Kittie Howard, and I think I'll hang around for a while...
